Playing with musical instruments. Appropriate or not?Children learn from every experience. Nobody would doubt that, under appropriate supervision, allowing a child to see a farm
animal close up or, to go to a petting zoo, would be a positive experience for them. We read to our children, we give them
books and stimulating toys. We count and recite the alphabet. We let them see the stars and feel the sand between their
toes. So we should not wonder if exposing them to musical instruments is appropriate. By providing a variety of stimuli
for children and by neither limiting them, nor forcing them, we are giving them the greatest gift that we can. Musical instruments
are no different from anything else, our children will let us know whether they are interested or not. It is their job to
make the discovery for themselves and our job as parents and educators, to provide them with as much varied opportunity as
we can.
